Weekend Open Thread
I'll be away this weekend, so visit NedLamont.com, ConnecticutBlog, My Left Nutmeg, Ned Lamont resource, the NedHeads YouTube group, DumpJoe.com, and the rest of the blogroll on the left for Lieberman-Lamont news. Here are some things going on today:
- Speaking of the last two links, the Resource has video of local news coverage of Joe's gas statio photo-op yesterday, with rebuttals by the irreplacable Keith and Ed who were both on the scene.
- The fundraising drive is almost 1/5 of the way to $125,000. Get Ned on the air.
- Another AP article keeps the idea of Sec. of Defense Joementum in the mix:
Michael O'Hanlon, a defense analyst at the Brookings Institution, said he has little doubt that Rumsfeld will remain at the Pentagon for some time, despite the unpopularity of the Iraq war and criticism of his management style. He called Lieberman one of the few Democrats who would accept the job and who could get along with Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
O'Hanlon's a smart guy and my guess is he's probably right on both counts: Rummy is here for a while, but Lieberman will be a serious candidate once he leaves. If Joe wins, in January 2007 we may have to worry about Bush choosing Lieberman to replace him, and a possible Gov. Rell appointing a GOP replacement in the Senate for two years.
