Tuesday News Round-Up
Here's whats in the papers and the blogs this morning:
- The Stamford Advocate reports on the grand opening of the Ned Lamont for Senate office in Norwalk (4th CD) last night. My sense is a lot of the early support for Lamont, in terms of volunteers at least, is coming from DFA/ex-Dean people, and a couple of the quotes in the article seem to confirm that. This quote is funny cause it's true:
Lamont, who stopped in Norwalk between union visits and a speaking engagement at Fairfield University, said he won't turn back now.
"I'd be lynched and hung by my ankles," he said in an interview. "We're full out."
According to the article, offices will soon be opening in Danbury, New Haven, Hartford, New London, and the main office in Meriden. - In These Times gets this quote from Tom Matzzie of MoveOn on their willingness to get involved on behalf of Ned Lamont:
"Certainly we are hearing a lot from our members who are angry at Lieberman for cheerleading the war in Iraq," he says. MoveOn is considering whether to throw its organization behind Ned Lamont, who is still getting a primary challenge to Lieberman off the ground. "We have set a standard with our members that we are not going to play games," says Matzzie. "We will only offer the support of our members to candidates who are serious."
I think it's pretty obvious by now that this is a very serious campaign. If that's MoveOn's only reservation about taking on this race, they can jump right on in. - Via Kos, Howie Kurtz reiterates the fact that Sean Hannity has offered to campaign and fundraise for Joe Lieberman. In the laughing-it-up interview the two "pals" had last month, Hannity's exact words were:
HANNITY: I'm good. Now listen, before we get into all the stuff that we need to talk about, there's a lot of news here. I need to know, yes or no, do you want my public support, do you want my endorsement, do you think that hurts your re-election efforts, do you want me to come out in opposition of you, I want to do what's in your best interests, you gotta tell me what you want me to do.
LIEBERMAN: Yeah. Well, you know, it's good of you to ask me in private like this. (Laughter)
HANNITY: (Laughter) I'm thinking... I'm thinking Hannity Conservatives for Lieberman and I'll do a big fundraiser in Connecticut. - More bad poll news on Iraq for Lieberman and Bush: the WaPo/ABC poll shows that the Bush-Lieberman strategy has suffered a double-digit loss in support since the "Strategy for Victory" PR campaign in December, which was preceded by Lieberman's WSJ op-ed in November. Support for Iraq is feeling the Joementum in the polls.
- Finally, some news from other races: It's primary day in Texas, which means Tom DeLay and Henry Cuellar are both sweating bullets, and Ciro Rodriguez is pulling out all the stops. (Watch the results tonight and see what hapens to Bush-kissers in primaries, Joe.) Also, James Webb (D-VA) is set to announce his candidacy today, and I'm really looking forward to reading about what he has to say.

Could you put a tally of which and how many town committees Lamont visted and took questions from the public so far Vs How many town committees Joe Lieberman has visited and taken questions since the Year 2000 somewhere prominent on this blog.
IT"S TIME JOE CAME TO THIS STATE AND ANSWERED QUERSTIONS FROM NUTMEGGERS!

Keith- that's a great idea, but I doubt I could get the info about Lieberman's appearances without contacting each DTC individually. Any ideas?
