Does Harry Reid Love Terrorists Too?

Someone ask Joe:

Washington, DC — Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on the British terror plot:

“I commend British authorities for defusing this terror plot and apprehending the suspects. Their actions protected the lives of innocent civilians, including many American citizens. Today’s events are an important reminder that we need to renew our focus on the war on terror and to continue to work with our allies to protect Americans from terrorism.

“Terrorism remains the greatest threat to our security. As the five year anniversary of the September 11th attacks approaches, we should take this opportunity not just to remember, but to take stock of what progress has been made to protect Americans and what steps remain unfulfilled. As a result of mismanagement and the wrong funding priorities, we are not as safe as we should be and we still have not implemented the bipartisan 9-11 Commission’s recommendations to secure our ports, airports, and chemical plants. The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists. This latest plot demonstrates the need for the Bush administration and the Congress to change course in Iraq and ensure that we are taking all the steps necessary to protect Americans at home and across the world.

Comments:
Reid's comments illustrate that the Dems are finally beginning to get a clue about staying on message and hammering the message home. Hell, GWB/Cheney/Rove do this all the time with total non-sequiturs. Even if the average individual who hasn't thought it through doesn't immediately grasp why Bush has made us less safe -- and all indications are that the electorate has in fact largely grasped this -- no matter. Just say it enough and people will accept it as fact, a technique the Republicans have exploited for decades with their "Republicans support the military," "Republicans keep us safe," nonsense.

One more thing -- you REALLY need to allow non-Blogger comments on here. I nearly abandoned this comment because I didn't feel like fishing out my account info for a site that I never use except to comment.

With Lieberman out of the party and officially against us as he was in only fact before, Reid and other Democrats are relieved of the necessity of trying to coax him out of betraying us. Lieberman's cred is swirling around the drain hole and the water's going down fast.

Free of Zell Miller and free of Joe Lieberman, who knows? Maybe Democrats in the Senate will be free to be Democrats again.

Hi Philip-

Thanks for the comment and for the suggestion. I'll consider it, although allowing only Blogger comments cut down on a lot of trolling that was going on right before the primary.

Heck of a good job Brownie. Oops. Rummie. Chertie? Ricie? Alberto?

Cheney! Joey!
