- Who says political conventions aren't exciting anymore? The Courant has a roundup of yesterday's events, which saw Malloy edging out DeStefano in a long and hotly contested vote. Too bad both candidates are hamstrung by being unable to speak out about the most important issue facing Connecticut and the nation: Iraq. They have Joe to thank for that.
- Tom Rennie agrees with me - Lieberman's in trouble:
Can Joe Lieberman win over Democrats by acknowledging the public's hostility to the war in Iraq but not altering his support for it? Friday night's balloting bodes ill for the humble but haughty strategy.
- The GOP convention was a snoozer by comparison. Republicans in the state know their only hope for victory in November is for Joe to cut-and-run from the Democratic party:
Before the nomination, Schlesinger acknowledged that his best hope is for Democratic challenger Ned Lamont to beat incumbent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman in the August primary, and for Lieberman to run as an independent. In his acceptance speech, he targeted Lieberman, who won the party endorsement Friday night.
- Ned will be in New Haven today at 5pm, at the book signing for Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga's and Jerome Armstrong's Crashing the Gate.
- In the blogs, Firedoglake is still all over the Lamont campaign, and has become the biggest individual blog donor on ActBlue with small contributions totalling $31,000+ out of the $204,000+ already raised online. I'll take that type of support over the "bundled" individual donations from employees of big energy companies, big pharma companies, and big defense contractors that Joe survives on, any day.
- Speaking of fundraising, only a few more hundred dollars to get rid of that hat!
