2,500

"Death Toll in Iraq Reaches 2,500 U.S. Military, Pentagon Says."

If we leave it up to Joe Lieberman and President Bush, we will be in Iraq for at least three more years:

We're talking about 2006, 7, 8... that's three years. And I believe that a lot of very good things can happen in three years in Iraq that ideally would allow us to remove every American soldier who's there today.

Comments:
In Loving Memory of Lt. Richard Vandegeer, KIA 5/15/1975, Dao Koh Tang, Cambodia. The last man to die in the Viet Nam War. Panel 1W, Row 152 of the WALL. "Tu Quo'c Gh'i Cong, Anh Hai!" (Your country will never forget you, respected brother.)

Who will be the last one to die in Iraq? And for what?

Each American death saddens me.

I pause and read the honor rolls such as on ABC's This Week, my way of honoring our soldiers. I wonder about the parents and siblings of the 19 year olds and the spouse and kids of the, like me, 42 year olds. What economic conditions and recruitment lies combined with the social pressure of patriotism to cause them to enlist, and die.

Of course, Iraqi casualties and lives ruined, and American non-fatal injuries are horrible too.

All this politics and sniping about standing down and pulling out and goals and obligation makes me sick while the death toll now climbs over 2,500. We broke it, then we bombed the Pottery Barn to dust! Let's get the hell out and save some lives, on both sides!

I join the above in asking, who will be the last American to die in Iraq, and why will they die?
